How to choose an aspect ratio for your pet portrait
Match the shape of your digital file to the print or frame. An exact ratio match avoids an aspect-ratio crop, but the printer may still require edge bleed.
Start with the file’s shape
Kaptola’s standard custom portrait is a 4800 × 6000 px PNG: 4800 ÷ 6000 = 4:5. A print at the same width-to-height ratio keeps the composition. The dimensions in inches or centimetres do not have to be translations of one another.

Metric frame and poster choices
These practical metric sizes are separate choices, not rounded conversions of inch prints. Before buying, check that your chosen frame or print service offers the exact size and whether its mat opening changes the visible area.

When the ratio differs
For a full-bleed 30 × 40 cm print, the 4:5 file must become 3:4: crop the 4800 px width to 4500 px, losing 150 px at each side if centred. To keep all of the image instead, place it at 30 × 37.5 cm on the 30 × 40 cm sheet, leaving 1.25 cm above and below. A4 and 50 × 70 cm likewise need a crop, borders or a specially prepared layout. Check ears, flowers and text in the printer’s crop preview; ask Kaptola about another layout before ordering if needed.
Canvas edges and final checks
A gallery-wrapped canvas may use image content around the frame edges. Check your printer’s crop and bleed preview so important details stay on the front. Kaptola currently supplies a digital file and does not ship prints or canvases.
